ABOUT

Fanny Schultz is a Swedish ceramic artist based on the island of Selaön in Södermanland, Sweden. Working primarily in stoneware, she creates objects that exist in the space between art and function. Her practice explores the relationship between sculpture, ornament and everyday use, where each piece carries the marks of the hand.

MADE BY HAND, AT EVERY SCALE

Every tile is made and designed by Fanny Schultz in her studio on Selaön and each form and glaze has been thoughtfully composed to work individually as well as in combination across the collection. As each tile is handmade, subtle variations in shape, texture and glaze become part of the finished surface.

The Studio range is made entirely by Fanny in her studio on Selaön. For larger projects, the same designs are produced by hand in a close partnership with a ceramics workshop in Portugal.

All of Fanny's tiles begin the same way, regardless of size of order: as a design sculpted by hand in clay. To meet the demands of larger architectural projects while preserving the integrity of the original designs, Fanny has established a close collaboration with a specialized ceramic manufacturer in Portugal.

Moulds have been developed based on her original reliefs and flat tiles, making it possible to produce larger quantities while maintaining the handcrafted character of the collection.

Glazes, finishes and production techniques have been carefully developed in collaboration with the factory's skilled artisans. Every tile continues to be handmade and this partnership allows the studio to deliver projects of all scales, from private residences to large architectural commissions without compromising on craftsmanship, quality or artistic expression. All tiles are made from high-fired stoneware, ensuring durability and timeless quality.

“I think of stoneware as something to work with rather than control, asking for patience along the way. There is something deeply familiar about the material, which goes beyond experience and knowledge. Humans have shaped clay with their hands for thousands of years and I think it’s something deeply rooted in our heritage, passed down through generations. I love that it's basically just mud, nothing precious about it, and the process of sculpting is slow, repetitive and humbling. I hope my work reflects that same sense of permanence: objects that feel timeless, tactile and quietly grounded.”
